What is Synchronicity?
Synchronicity is a sequence of events that coincide with each other and have significant meaning related to each other. These events would appear on the surface to be just chance but are in no way a coincidence.
An example would be: You want to pursue your dream job and you are trying to make an excuse not to do so and for every excuse you make a solution seems to fall in your lap. Or you attend an event you would usually avoid because every time you switch on the TV, radio or speak with someone it’s all you hear about. Then as a result of attending that event you meet someone significant like a partner or a business associate or a future friend.
Synchronicities differ from coincidence. A coincidence could be you sneezing and at the same time a firework going off. It may be a little weird that it happens but in most cases there would be no significant meaning
THE NATURE OF SYNCHRONICITY
Patience is good. Synchronicity is better. Patience can be defined as bearing or enduring without complaint. It is the act of “giving time” to that which will come to fruition. It is the hope of things to come. Note that patience implies the waiting game that is, “I don’t have it now, but with time it will come to me.” It is one of the Virtues.
At some point in our lives we’ve all experienced synchronicities – coincidences in which highly improbable events occur. You’re thinking about an old friend that you haven’t seen in years then receive a phone call from them a few seconds later. You have a sudden unexplainable urge to visit a place you have never been to then end up meeting the love of your life. Are such coincidences merely chance or is there something more at work? What do coincidences mean? To explain such remarkable events the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung coined the term “synchronicity” which he defined as:
The coming together of inner and outer events in a way that cannot be explained by cause and effect and that is meaningful to the observer.
Synchronistic events seem to defy all logic and have no rational explanation by the natural laws of cause and effect. However, due to the fact that they have significance and meaning to the observer and are often profoundly life changing. Synchronicity has long fascinated humankind.
The term “synchronicity” is often used rather loosely as a synonym for coincidence. As in events that trigger the exclamation “What a coincidence!” or “What are the chances?” Typically such coincidences seem to have some kind of inherent meaning – even if we don’t know what it is at the time. They make us scratch our heads and wonder “Hmmm…” Such events can be relatively minor occurrences or in some cases significant events that alter the entire course of our lives.
Types of Synchronicity
Predictive: This is where you see, think or do something that links to an outcome. The classic example is thinking of someone and them calling you.
Guiding: This is where signs may guide you to a specific outcome. This could be you thinking of giving up on your music career because of a lack of work and just as you are about to do so you get a phone call from someone trying to book you for work.
Reflective: This is where you are forced to reflect due to a synchronistic event. An example would be if you decided to cancel your gym membership and then as you go to do it an email hits your inbox about the benefits of exercise making you reflect on if you have made the right decision or not.
Testing: This is where synchronicity tests you ego. An example would be if you had a food addiction and absolutely loved fried chicken when thinking about this addiction a fried chicken advert comes on the TV. Testing your ability to fight the temptation. Be strong don’t do it!!!
Synchronicities are Always Happening
One thing I have noticed is that there have always been synchronicities in my life maybe not quite in the quantity that they are happening now but they have always been there. Your job is to follow the synchronistic events. The magical thing is the more you follow them the more they happen. Don’t go searching for something that is not there but learn to recognize when something is in front of you. If the perfect relationship seems to fall from the sky at the perfect moment and you decide not to pursue it you are seeing the synchronicities but not following them. When you start to live out these synchronistic events you will start getting the little cosmic nudges such as seeing the Angelic Gateway Numbers 11:11. Hints from the Higher Realms.
Synchronicity in Your Life
Think back to every significant event in your life. surely it is full of synchronicity and it is usually the bigger the life event the more synchronicities coincide with it. It has everything to do with being fully immersed in your life as well. Immersion and wholeness are the main objectives when it comes to living and also recognizing synchronistic events. It is when we are in a place of acceptance and immersion in our body and soul as well as our mind we can start to work with these life directing examples and displays of occurrences. Synchronicity works hand in hand with your internal core gut instinct. It activates your core and can also strengthen your life force and help you work with life not against it.
How Does Synchronicity Work
Synchronicity works in the now and only in the now. It is the result of full acceptance and allowance of life and its quality of flow. It is born from the stillness of the mind, in listening to that which is brought to us by the universe. It is the natural flow of life irrespective of our conditioning, our wants and our plans. When we drop the thinking that which is beyond thought is allowed to manifest itself in our experience. And the quality of such manifestation is Perfection. It is synchronistic and divine. It’s getting out of the way for The Way.
Synchronicity is the essence of unity consciousness a quality of the natural flow of life. The flower blooms in perfect synchronicity with the natural elements of the sun, water, wind and soil. It does hope to bloom in the winter nor does it have plans or wishes to bloom during the cold months. Instead it lives in a synchronistic relationship with all elements in its experience and grows when it is best for it to be supported by the elements and vice versa. It blooms at its perfect time in harmony with that which surrounds it and interrelates with it.
Patience is waiting. How can one be complete if one is waiting for that which is not yet evident? Even patient waiting is waiting. Like the passenger in the train station awaiting the arrival of his train, he may be on the constant outlook for the appearance of the train down the tracks. In his constant glances down the track, he is anxious and in desire of that which is not yet in his experiential field. Instead, he may have a seat on a station bench, taking pleasure in watching lilies sway in the field across the tracks. And as he does so lo and behold the train will come into his awareness in its own time. And it is in that moment he can bring his awareness to the arrival of the train. It is in the moment.
The term “synchronicity” is often used rather loosely as a synonym for coincidence. As in, events that trigger the exclamation “What a coincidence!” or “What are the chances?” Usually, such coincidences seem to have some kind of inherent meaning – even if we don’t know what it is at the time. They make us scratch our heads and wonder, “Hmmm…”Such events can be relatively minor occurrences or, in some cases, significant events that alter the entire course of our lives.
Something more?
When synchronicities occur there is almost always a deeper sense of awareness that is activated. It’s as if something sparks within us. Fleeting though it may be something stirs. And even if for just a brief moment something does awaken. It’s difficult to deny the sensations and energy one feels when experiencing such events firsthand. Even the hardened skeptic feels something. It may just be a feeling of amusement or curiosity but still it’s something. For some there is a deeper feeling. A feeling of profound awe. Perhaps it is because our sense of reality is momentarily knocked off balance. The seeming absurdity of such random and improbable events. Random yet not…We can’t help but wonder if there is some kind of meaning behind it all.
An Underlying Interconnectedness
In physics we are taught that every single particle in the universe has a gravitation effect upon every other particle no matter how far the particles are separated. This unified effect supports the theories that all events are related in some way to each other. So it can be said that synchronicity is merely a very personal and subjective observation of this interconnected universe if which we are but a small part of. Science and quantum physics point to the notion that everything in the universe is connected. Providing particular support is Bell’s Theorem. Proclaimed as “the most profound discovery in science” by physicist Henry Stapp in a 1975 federal report Bell’s theorem postulates that everything in the universe is connected as an indivisible whole. Experiments based on Bell’s Theorem have shown this to be true and that reality is non-local. Einstein referred to this as “spooky action at a distance”. Could this universal interconnectedness and “spooky action” be an explanation for synchronicity?
What brought you here? Why in this very moment when you could be anywhere doing anything, is it that you have found yourself on this blog? Chances are that you saw the image and it made sense to you! Do you see 11:11? Does it boggle your mind and at times create weird and wonderful confusion? Are you struggling to make sense of its meaning? Don’t worry, I totally understand, and I hope this article can be of some comfort…This article is not going to be just about numerology, that is only a small part of the mysterious world of synchronicity. I am going to try and bring some kind of meaning to something that is hard to understand at a purely logical view point, and something that I have to admit I do not fully understand. But it is my belief that synchronicity does not work on that kind of level. I know it is significant, I know that following it can bring great things, but it is not something that can be fully understood by the mind.
What Is The Point of Synchronicity?
Synchronicity serves many purposes. It can serve as a reminder that you are on the right path and it can be for guidance. Sometimes it is to test you but other times it will lead you to form significant relationships and at other times it is just for you to stop and be present!
A Secret Language
In author Paulo Coelho’s view synchronicity is a secret language. The language of the stars and of the Universe. It is something that guides us and provides us with valuable information. Information that can shape our lives for the better and help us to accomplish our dreams.
Coincidence is the language of the stars. For something to happen so many forces have to be put into action. According to the ancient alchemists, and to the physicists of today, everything is just one thing only. – Paulo Coelho
The idea of coincidences as signs and guidance is a major theme of Coelho’s work including his best-selling book The Alchemist. The Alchemist has sold over 65 million copies worldwide in over 160 countries and has been translated into 71 languages. Clearly there is universal appeal and fascination with synchronicity.
What does it all mean?
While many may be skeptical about unseen forces or unexplainable phenomenon they will almost certainly experience synchronicities at some point in their lives. Highly personal encounters with some mysterious and hidden world. There is an air of magic, amazement and excitement that such unexpected and unexplainable experiences bring. They tickle us with a jolt of energy that even if for just a brief moment imparts a sense of wonder… a sense of something more. And what does it mean? Is it the guiding hand of a divine force? A reflection of our own minds and thoughts? Or simply a byproduct of an interconnected universe with a purely scientific explanation? And if so what are the implications of this? And what about the specific synchronicities and coincidences themselves? Are they signs? Messages or Clues ?Do they hold valuable keys to our lives…Can they impact our future and possibly give us direction? It is my belief that they can by paying attention and even keeping a journal when they begin to appear in your life. Paying attention to what is going on in your daily life while they are happening-especially in times of crisis and transition. They are a supportive element in daily living and decision making.
Making Sense of it All
If you’re curious about making sense of the synchronicities and coincidences that appear in your own life there is something simple you can do is to start keeping track of them. Write them down somewhere. Make a note of all the different ways that synchronistic events occur in your life. Whether it’s a coincidence or a dream a feeling or hunch, or inspired idea, capture it somewhere. Write it all down in a journal or on your computer or in your phone’s note taking aphtha. The main thing is to pay attention and start keeping track. Little by little the clues will start to add up and things will begin to make sense. Try it out and see what you find. You’re the only one who can make sense of synchronicities and what they mean for you.
Remember…
Remember you are the only one who can make sense of synchronicities and what they mean for you. No one else can tell you. And although things may seem outside of your realm of awareness or understanding you DO know what all of these things mean. The key is to be able to tap into your own inner knowing (aka intuition) and discern fact from fiction, truth from wishful thinking, fears and imagination.
Synchronicity is a gift of the universe and is available to use in every moment. It is the subtle and sweet music of existence that we can hear if we only listen. If we attend only to the clamoring of our minds we will be unable to manifest the harmonious flow of synchronicity from unity consciousness. Our dance to this synchronistic flow is experiential ecstasy. It is the effortless dance of the of the self with the universe.
