Our secret indulgence regarding ourselves is a poison that surreptitiously contaminates our souls and leads us into darkened pathways spilling into the abyss. Like Narcissus, we relish in examining ourselves in the reflection of our own divine greatness, which endeavors upon us an obsession without equal. This strange rumination of our own qualities leads us to fall into a subtle self-satisfaction that contaminates our purest deeds and sterilizes our most untainted desires.
We may understand narcissism as a complex constructed personality disorder whereby a person has an exaggerated sense of their own importance and a lack of awareness of others and how their actions affect those around them. The exact same description applies to a sub-category of narcissists known as “spiritual narcissists“. These souls have such an unwavering belief in their own exalted perception, their own “unique” spiritual achievements and wisdom they are unable to connect with or tolerate any ideas or people that would challenge them. They may fine-tune the external image of being compassionate or holding wisdom but others that ultimately pose a threat to their delusional grandiosity will be discarded. This occurs when their beliefs and behaviors morph into spiritual narcissism. The person has begun identifying solely as a “spiritual person”. Spiritual narcissism is the very pinnacle of spiritual vainglory, it is the apex of their spiritual platform. It is in this place that the ego has become so thick and densified, so inexorable in its own objective that it becomes decayed, diseased and self-obsessed.
Spiritual narcissists’ will speak of being profoundly spiritual, connected to the Divine, in deep devotion to those around them, but they usually lack any authentic curiosity about our world. In their minds they have all the answers. Their belief system is usually quite rigid and they don’t engage with other people who may share alternative viewpoints nor will they explore ideas and people who they may deem out of their depths because it would disturb their way of life. It would bring to their attention that the way they live their life is wrong, immoral and hurtful. These folks can believe that their level of spirituality elevates them above others and they are the “chosen ones”. Their faulty thinking leads them to believe that nothing can be gained by interacting with “ordinary” folks, What they fail to realize is that there are treasures of knowledge to be found in the simple and ordinary pursuits in life. These areas are where there is liquid gold that truly deepens the soul. This is specifically why the soul is in the body, to decide, absorb and learn then to transform through what lies immediately before us.
It is actually living in our world, making decisions, winning and losing that assist in the development of true depth and spiritual development. Mythical books, creeds and biases towards those that do no share their tightly held concepts keep one earthbound and locked into the dogma and three dimensional constructs that have been created out of fear. Our growth is always on ongoing process, there will never be an end and no one on this Earth has all the answers.
One highlight that can be noted regarding spiritual narcissists is that they never reveal their true essence, because they don’t know it. The essence of spirituality is finding a touchstone, or purpose to life and then connecting on a higher level with yourself and with others. Spiritual narcissist’s will not confront their fears or endeavor to heal their wounds. They will however step upon their podium and preach to everyone else about doing so. They’ll will conceal all of the darker layers of their life and only show the face, the mask that they wish people to see. They subconsciously limit themselves from having genuine experiences and from stepping into the unknown. That doesn’t serve their image or their ego. Keep an eagle eye when you are around them and you will notice a sharp double standard between how a spiritual narcissist behaves and what they have to say.
In my own personal experience with these types of folks in my community, the paranormal, and in the Kundalini Awakening and Yoga realms I have found a plethora of spiritual narcissist’s. They like to blame, gaslight and manipulate people and situations that support their narratives and boost their value. Specifically in the realm of the Kundalini Awakening journey they call those like me who have had spontaneous awakenings “dirty” souls and “the unprepared”. As I have stated before Kundalini Awakening is specifically for the souls removal from the reincarnation system, nothing more. Enlightenment or the perception of that is only a byproduct of the cleansing that the ego perceives. I have been dealing with narcissism since I was a youngster, with family, specifically my mother, friends and those that choose to move into a more difficult dynamic with me. Grey Rock has always been my go-to and simply walking away, going Scorpio dark. You really don’t owe them anything. But they are persistent. I have always felt that they serve as sort of a signpost as to what to avoid and to what not to behave like. A spiritual narcissist can reflect a symbol as with anything that is sacred, being humble is the the first principal. They will seep into anyplace where they can hide. It is yet another mask that is created so that the person never really has to deal with the deeper themes and challenges within their being. For a lot of them spirituality is all about love and light, which is a very naïve way to go through life because that is not our complete story. Always hiding behind a mask so nothing can touch them. I would say that never really knowing who you really are while on this planet could be thought of as one of the greatest heartbreaks a human being could participate in.
