One of the most notorious signs in the zodiac right? If you or someone you know is born between October 24th and November 22cnd watch out! Because here we come! Yes, I’m a Scorpio, a sweet one though. Scorpio is one of the most enigmatic, mysterious and misunderstood signs of the zodiac. Watch people’s reactions when you tell them you are a Scorpio. They may take a few steps back or they may move forward…it all depends upon the audience. Deep and passionate Scorpio thrives in a world of intensity, depth, questions and answers. The Scorpion isn’t interested in what’s sitting right on the surface-they want to dig down to get to the real treasures that lie beneath. Extreme and steadfast this signs lifelong mission is to rebuild itself over and over again creating in the end the most aware, insightful and capable soul imaginable.
In their everyday behavior they give the appearance of being withdrawn from the center of activity yet those who know them will recognize the watchfulness that is part of their character. They need great self-discipline because they are able to recognize the qualities in themselves that make them different from other humans and to know that their utterly conventional natures can be used for great good or great evil. Their tenacity and willpower are immense and their depth of character and passionate conviction overwhelming. They are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions. That sensitivity together with a propensity for extreme likes and dislikes make them easily hurt and quick to detect insult or injury to themselves (often when none is intended) and easily aroused to ferocious anger. This may express itself in such destructive speech or action that they make lifelong enemies by their outspokenness for they find it difficult not to be overly critical of anything or anyone to whom they take a dislike.
They can harness their abundant energy constructively by tempering their self-confidence with shrewdness and their ambition with magnanimity toward others provided they like them. If they do not or if their feelings are neutral unusual with them they relate to fellow workers only as leaders and can be blunt to those they dislike to the point of cruelty. In fact they are not above expressing vindictiveness in deliberate cruelty. They are too demanding, too unforgiving of faults in others and perhaps because they are not aware of the shortcomings within themselves. They can extravagantly express their self-disgust in unreasonable resentment against their fellows. They do however make excellent friends provided that their companions do nothing to impugn the honor of which Scorpions are very jealous. Part of the negative side of the Scorpion nature is a tendency to discard friends once they cease to be useful but the decent native is aware of and fights this tendency.
They are fortunate in that their strong reasoning powers are tempered with imagination and intuition. These gifts together with critical perception and analytical capacity can enable Scorpions to penetrate to profundities beyond the average. They have a better chance of becoming geniuses than the natives of any other sign. But charismatic “twice-born” characters such as they can sink into the extremes of depravity if they take the wrong path and the intensity of their natures exaggerates their harmful tendencies into vices far greater than the normal.
Rebelliousness against all conventions, political extremism to the point where hatred of the Establishment makes them utterly unscrupulous terrorists, brooding resentment, aggressive and sadistic brutality, total arrogance, morbid jealousy, extreme volatility of temperament these are some of their vices. At the other extreme is the procrastinator or the man or woman who is capable of so much that they do nothing and become indolent and self-indulgent often requiring extravagant praise and flattery from those whom they make their cronies.
Being so gifted can find fulfillment in many employments. Their inner intensity can result in the ice-cold self-control and detachment of the surgeon or the concentration of the research scientist and the heroism of the soldier. Any profession in which analysis, investigation, research, dealing with practicalities and the solving of mysteries are relevant can appeal to them. So police and detective work, espionage and counterespionage, the law, physics or psychology may attract them and they can become masters of the written and spoken word. They may be most persuasive orators and find fulfillment as diplomats or preachers and if they make the Church their profession their inner intensity can express itself in the spiritual fervor of the mystic or the thaumaturgy.
Scorpio is the symbol of sex and Scorpions are passionate lovers and the most sensually energetic of all the signs. For them union with the beloved is a sacrament an “outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.” Their overriding urge in loving is to use their power to penetrate beyond themselves and to lose themselves sexually in their partners in an almost mystical ecstasy thus discovering the meaning of that union which is greater than individuality and is a marriage of the spirit as well as of flesh. They are thus capable of the greatest heights of passionate transport but debauchery and perversion are always dangers and Scorpions can become sadistic monsters of sensuality and eroticism. Their feelings are so intense that even when their love is of the highest and most idealistic kind they are nevertheless frequently protagonists in tragic even violent romances, “star-crossed lovers” indeed.
Appearance
Intensity and density. These are the keywords of Scorpio or Plutonian radiance. The facial features are frequently strong. The face is usually an angular shape and they may have heavy or prominent eyebrows. Their facial characteristics are warm but penetrating. The lips are warm and full and the hair is typically dark with a reddish tint that is detected when the sunlight hits it. The Scorpio chin/jawbone is strong and stubborn which also describes Scorpio traits. When you look into their eyes you find them penetrating and keen as if drilling holes into you. Scorpio has a striking nose if it’s a real Scorpio nose it looks fleshy and strong and it may have a hook. Sort of like the beak of an eagle. The skin usually can achieve a dark tan or tans easily. They usually have warm hands or warm bodies.
Pluto
The planet Pluto harnesses its powerful and persuasive side as it rules over the zodiac sign Scorpio. In Roman mythology Pluto is the Lord of the Underworld which describes this planet’s depth, passion, and intensity, not to mention its association with death. Pluto’s overall theme of death and rebirth plays a significant role in Scorpio’s life creating a cycle of transformation and encouraging Scorpio’s personal metamorphosis.
Black
Like the dark and mysterious depths that the Scorpion thrives in, Scorpio’s power color is black. Black absorbs light. Much like Scorpio dives below the surface to enlighten its own life. In western culture the color black is associated with death and rebirth which speaks to Scorpio’s strength of letting go and enhances its ability to transform itself.
Water
The element of Water flows consistently and powerfully through the zodiac sign Scorpio. The Scorpion’s passionate and emotional ways spring from the Water element’s uncontrollable habit of prioritizing feelings in their daily lives. Like rich underground water that has become purified by Earth’s minerals Scorpios are capable of soul transformation by searching deep within themselves.
Death
Death, the Tarot card of Scorpio, emphasizes the sign’s connection to the transformative cycle of life. This Tarot card uses death in a figurative sense representing endings of all forms – relationships, projects, phases, ideas, and more. Scorpio utilizes this concept of impermanence to continually grow — often killing off the ventures, activities, or relationships in its life that no longer serve them to make room for something new. The Death card tells us that some things must rest in peace to allow new opportunities to enter our life.
Myth
In Greek Mythology the myths associated with Scorpio almost invariably also contain a reference to Orion. According to one of these myths it is written that Orion boasted to goddess Artemis and her mother Leto that he would kill every animal on the earth. Although Artemis was known to be a hunter herself she offered protection to all creatures. Artemis and her mother Leto sent a scorpion to deal with Orion. The pair battled and the scorpion killed Orion. However the contest was apparently a lively one that caught the attention of the king of the gods Zeus who later raised the scorpion to heaven and afterwards at the request of Artemis did the same for Orion to serve as a reminder for mortals to curb their excessive pride. There is also a version that Orion was better than the goddess Artemis but said that Artemis was better than he and so Artemis took a liking to Orion. The god Apollo, Artemis’s twin brother, grew angry and sent a scorpion to attack Orion. After Orion was killed Artemis asked Zeus to put Orion up in the sky. So every winter Orion hunts in the sky but every summer he flees as the constellation of the scorpion comes.
Scorpios secretly yearn for the very thing they fear-true intimacy with others. It takes a lot for Scorpio to reveal their vulnerability so guard that privilege with the utmost care. As Scorpios open up and learn to show their shadowy side they can heal in ways that are truly profound.
